What screams fall more than fresh apples and homemade applesauce? Nothing! Slow cooking the applesauce in a slow cooker fills your house with delicious smells of fall! With no sugar added, this applesauce is a healthy snack or light addition to any meal. Keep in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or for longer storage, keep in the freezer for up to 6 months.
3 pounds apples (fuji, gala, McIntosh, Jonathan, etc)
1/3 cup water
1. Slice and core the apples with an apple corer/slicer. No need to peel.
2. Place the apples and water in slow cooker and cook on low for 6 hours, or until the apples are very soft.
3. Use an immersion blender to puree the applesauce. Or, transfer to a blender (carefully!) and blend using a dish towel to cover the vent at the top. Don’t puree too smooth – some “chunks” are good!
If you like, you can add 2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground cloves, and/or 1/8 tsp nutmeg prior to cooking to spice it up a bit.
